Die Nelkenrevolution
Am 25. April 2024 ist der 50. Jahrestag der Nelkenrevolution. An diesem Tag stürzte ein Militärputsch das faschistische Regime in Portugal mit dem Ziel der ökonomischen und demokratischen Modernisierung. Schnell radikalisierten sich nicht nur Teile des Militärs sondern auch Industrie- und Landarbeiterschaft. Es kam zu Enteignungen und Verstaatlichungen und Haus- und Landbesetzungen in großem Stil.
Die Hoffnung auf inen „Portugiesischen Sozialismus“ in Westeuropa elektrisierte die Industrie- und Landarbeiterschaft in Portugal und die europäische Linke, ebenso wie es die Kapitalisten dort und in den NATO-Staaten erschreckte. Den Unterdrückten eröffnete sich durch den Militärputsch die Möglichkeit auf andere Verhältnisse, und sie wollten massenhaft ganz andere, nicht nur politische sondern auch ökonomische.
Eingehegt und in vielen Teilen rückgängig gemacht wurde die Nelkenrevolution durch äußere und innere Widerstände. Trotzdem erreichte sie soziale Reformen und bürgerliche Freiheiten. Es bleibt die hoffnunsfrohe Einsicht, dass selbst nach 48 Jahren Klerikalfaschismus eine Veränderung gesellschaftlicher Verhältnisse möglich ist!
Die Ausstellung
Die Ausstellung stellt die Nelkenrevolution in einfacher Sprache dar. In 12 Themenbereichen werden die Vorgeschichte und der Ablauf beleuchtet. Eine Broschüre zur Ausstellung ist in deutsch und englisch erhältlich.
Die Ausstellung kann kein Geschichtsbuch ersetzen. Sie soll Interesse an der Nelkenrevolution wecken und die Veränderbarkeit der Gesellschaft hin zu einer menschlicheren, gerechteren propagieren. Im besten Fall soll sie anregen sich dafür zu organisieren.
Das Ausstellungskollektiv
Wir sind eine Gruppe von Leuten aus Berlin / Deutschland aus linken politischen Zusammenhängen, die anlässlich 50 Jahre Nelkenrevolution eine Wanderausstellung erstellt haben.
Wir sind keine Historiker und keine professionellen Ausstellungsmacher. Uns leitet die Idee linke Geschichte aus linker Perspektive zu erzählen. Die Erzählung „unserer“ Geschichte wollen wir nicht den Herrschenden überlassen. Wir waren bereits an der Erstellung zweier Ausstellungen beteiligt: „Kämpfende Hütten – Urbane Proteste von 1871 bis heute“ und „150 Jahre Pariser Kommune“.

The Carnation Revolution
25 April 2024 is the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution. On this day, a military coup overthrew the fascist regime in Portugal with the aim of economic and democratic modernisation. Not only parts of the military but also industrial and agricultural workers quickly became radicalised. There were expropriations and nationalisations and large-scale occupations of houses and land.
The hope of a „Portuguese socialism“ in Western Europe electrified the industrial and agricultural workers in Portugal and the European left, just as it frightened the capitalists there and in the NATO countries. The military coup opened up the possibility of different conditions for the oppressed, and they wanted completely different ones en masse, not only politically but also economically.
The Carnation Revolution was contained and in many parts reversed by external and internal resistance. Nevertheless, it achieved social reforms and civil liberties. The hopeful realisation remains that even after 48 years of clerical fascism, a change in social conditions is possible!
The exhibition
The exhibition presents the Carnation Revolution in simple language. The prehistory and the course of events are illuminated in 12 thematic areas. A brochure on the exhibition is available in German and English.
The exhibition cannot replace a history book. It is intended to arouse interest in the Carnation Revolution and propagate the possibility of changing society towards a more humane and just one. At best, it should encourage people to organise for this.
The exhibition collective
We are a group of people from Berlin / Germany from left-wing political contexts who have created a travelling exhibition to mark 50 years of the Carnation Revolution.
We are neither historians nor professional exhibition organisers. We are guided by the idea of telling left-wing history from a left-wing perspective. We don’t want to leave the telling of „our“ history to those in power. We have already been involved in the creation of two exhibitions: “ Kämpfende Hütten – Urban Protests from 1871 to the Present“ and „150 Years of the Paris Commune„.
